Winning Souls to Christ in The World of Warcraft

Christian game enthusiasts around the US are turning the world of Azeroth inside the new video game, “World of Warcraft” into a mission field, where virtual battles are fought and real souls are won to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Billy Houston, a Landover Baptist Senior High youth, has been sharing Jesus in the virtual gaming world for over three years. “I evangelized in Lineage 2, Everquest, Diablo, and a bunch of other games,” he says, “but I haven’t seen nearly as many people who are as open to hearing the Gospel message as I have inside the World of Warcraft.”

The One Console Game I Would Play

Assassin’s Creed

Assassin’s Creed looks damn interesting. It looks like the devs for this one really stepped outside the box and decided to do something fun and different. It’s just to bad it’s coming out for console players only… As we all know, consoles suck. Ubisoft will be releasing Assassin’s Creed for both the Xbox and the Playstation.

Below is a run through by one of the devs:

Senator Plays WoW - Has Level 70 Priest

Awesome…

In an interview to Pacific Daily News, Sen. Ray Tenorio, a representative of the state of Guam, revealed that he is a World of Warcraft player… a serious level-70 Dwarf priest at that, too. He goes by the name of Paleray on the Silverhand server and is even a member of a guild.

Apparently, being a Senator from Guam doesn’t mean a lot of work. Also of note, he’s an idiot for giving his name/server out and will now be trolled forever.

what does your MMO class say about you?

Descrutoid

Being that half the world plays some type of MMO I thought it would be fitting to link this story that I found over at Destructoid. It’s a pretty interesting read although I don’t agree with my Warrior explanation. I just like to beat the shit out of things and I don’t have any repressed feeling…dammit. Click the pic to read the story.

Heavy video gamers comprise only 2% of all gamers, yet they spent more than eight times on games than the average gamer did in the last quarter of 2006, according to NPD Group’s “Gamer Segmentation II” study, conducted in January 2007 among gamers ages 6 to 44.

These heavy gamers owned an average of 2.8 video game consoles, and played an average of 39.3 hours every week.

Lyrics to the Kirby theme song revealed

Kriby’s Dream Land was one of my favorite games on my old Game Boy. It’s amazing how well the lyrics match. :)

The video was blatantly stolen from here, but I like the youtube format better.

Last but not least, the mp3 for your enjoyment. :)

RPG Player Kidnapped for Password

An armed gang of four kidnapped one of the world’s top RPG gamers after one criminal’s girlfriend lured him into a fake date using Orkut, Google’s social network. After sequestering him in Sao Paulo, they held a gun against the victim’s head for five hours to get his password, which they wanted to sell for $8,000. And yes, the story gets even better.

Surprisingly enough, after five hours the hostage wasn’t talking. The group leader had a gun against his head all that time but the guy didn’t say a word. At that point, the crooks gave up and decided to let him go. The brazilian police then caught the four suspects, aged 19 to 27.

Translating WoW Lessons to the Business World

There’s a really interesting article that all WoW players, and other gamers, should read up on VentureBeat. It’s called “Noob and other words worth thinking about“. Besides just being surprised to see an article covering WoW on a venture capitalist’s website, here are some of the takeaways:

1. Cry more, noob (or “less QQ, more PEWPEW”)
This was my favorite rule especially as it applies to start-ups. It was translated to me as, “don’t start by complaining about game mechanics before you know how the game works. Ask questions and get guidance before you assume the game is broken. Most likely the problem is that you do not know how to play the game. If you are inexperienced, show some humility – be willing to learn.”

2. Pay it Forward
“Don’t ask until you have helped others. People are more inclined to help you once they know you and see you as part of their ecosystem.”

3. There are no good secrets
Oh, man, this one was great – and so counter-intuitive. These two were chatting away about all of the game secrets. They shared their learning from within WoW and from the many postings outside of Wow (yes, these two are real game geeks). They were actively tapping in to each other’s genius – in order to help themselves and to solve the problem set of the day.

Craziest WoW Rig Setups Ever

These guys are insane. Ever heard of 47-boxing? Shit!

If you count the number of PCs, you’ll get 47. My girlfriend controls 23 and I control 23. The other one is a server. All but 2 of those pcs are diskless. It got to the point that updating 46 pcs just took too long, the hard drives added to the electric bill and generated heat, so I found a good PXE solution that works great.

Rend, Tear, Hack and Cleave

Age of Conan combatThe guys at GamersInfo.net got a run through of Age of Conan’s combat system. This is definitely not your current generation type of combat. Some excerpts:

The mouse is very important in battle; you have to be able to turn and face your opponent quickly.

In the center of your screen is a radial menu with the alpha-numeric symbols Q123E. This indicates where your swing will land. Q is down and to the left. 3 swings up and high.

I mean, blood splattered all over my monitor. Scared the bajeezus out of me the first time! But I was in the middle of a frantic battle with my three party members against 3-7 enemies. Darned if I know what I did! I just know I did it!

Looks like it could be fun. Sign me up!

Gamers in Office Space

L33tn00b: Gamers in Office SpaceYep - that’s everyone who writes on l33tn00b. Surprisingly enough, the average age of gamers in the US is 33, and we’ve been playing games for about 12 years. Sounds about right to me.

By and large, we’re a bunch of “Office Space-gamers”. Living our day in a cube and gaming in our free time. Damn depressing isn’t it…

These stats are not just uber PC gamers, but also noob console gamers. So, it’s debatable if they can actually be called “gamers”.

Fallout 3

They say Fallout 3 will be coming out Fall 2008, which of course means that there isn’t a snowballs chance in hell that it’s coming out until 2009. Too bad. I’ve always loved the Fallout series. Bethesda puts out some pretty good non-traditional RPG games. Arcanum was unique and fun too. They’re also behind Oblivion and Morrowind.

Fallout 3

Their promo video is absolutely and completely pansy-ass gay.

Kotaku has a demo review up. Here’s their worthless quote of the day:

Bethesda is crafting a beautifully ugly world rife with the unique Fallout feel and flavor that the series is known for, while bringing into the next-generation with both boots firmly planted. While it might not be what many fans of the franchise wanted, it’s shaping up to be the best Fallout experience it can be.

That last line really makes me want to run in and pre-order it…

Sid Meier’s Next Civ Game: Revolution

I started playing Sid Meier’s games with Colonization. Back when the graphics were complete crap. I’ll be watching what becomes of his newest game - Civilization Revolution. Hopefully it will be change the game a little. It’s been a while since that happened in this genre.
